Mel Taylor | | My father's dirty socks when he was a puppy. For some unGodly reason he thought they were a delicacy and it was all we could do to keep the hamper upright. Luckily he stopped in his first year. What about your dog?

Ann Rader | | When he was a youngster, my Great Dane swallowed an entire bird’s nest. I’d seen him carrying it and because I was inexperienced with dogs in those days, let him have it. Next thing I knew, it was gone, and so I assumed that he had dropped it somewhere. That evening he had a tummy ache. And when he threw the nest up, we knew just where it had disappeared!
The other thing, and this gross, he threw up a dead mouse. My cats had no doubt killed it and he found it on the floor and he decided to have a taste. It was really disgusting to see a mauled dead mouse that was vomit. I remember seeing a program on TV where a smallish mixed breed dog ate not only an entire cake, but the pastry knife as well. The x-ray was quite something! The surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York was a success.
Does the black olive that my doggie ate this evening count? He’ll snatch ANYTHING that lands on the floor.

Beth Sponseller | | Hi,
My yellow lab, Cody will eat just about anything, kleenex, dryer sheets, even a HandiWipe which scared me but I found the whole thing in his poo the next day. When he was a puppy, he counter surfed all the time. I did what my trainer suggested and mixed up some peanut butter and food along with some cotton balls and bitter apple thinking he wouldn't like the taste but he ate it and was ready for more!!

Trisha Anderson | | Trisha here. In the 70's we had a wonderful little American Eskimo. He was a chewer. Some years he did, some years he did not. Never knew when he would start in.
Well, let me start! In 1 month, he chewed the crotches out of everyone of the kid's dirty panties. He chewed the crotches out of my Butte Knits slacks. He chewed all my husband's underwear. We were a underwearless family.
But the strangest thing he ever chewed...We went away for 2 days. Fluffy was paper trained and outside trained also. We left his food, papers, and lots of water.
We closed all the custom made drapes in the living room and dining room. (Then we all had these big formal dining rooms with fancy drapes) Left the windows open slightly for the nice breeze.
We came home..as we walked in, I said to my husband, what is that light swirling around? It was so pretty on the walls. Like crystals on the walls. Well, Fluffy had chewed at his height, all the way round the living room and dining room the drapes. All the way around. Every single drape in both rooms. We could not believe it.
I started to use his collar and had a little rope chain so I could keep him in the bed with me so he would not get down before I woke. Then he chewed the comforter and the top sheet.
Now I know, he probably was lacking something in his diet! Then I just kissed him and said "Love you anyway!"

Marielena Alvarez | | Dogs love underwear that has been worn and unwashed, probably why they love sniffing crotches!
Lady has a panty fetish (women's panties) and used to go for an ex-housemate's undies (she was diabetic). She will chew any plastic item lying around if she can't find a rawhide chewy. She loves Tupperware as well as her plastic dog brush, Daddy's cord to his digital camera, cassette tape cases, you name it, if it is plastic, it gets chewed and mangled! At least with the Tupperware, I can order a replacement piece, if the item is still made, but the warranty doesn't cover dog inflicted damage, only cracking and peeling.
Now if only she would take a capsule wrapped in a pill pocket!
Perhaps it is time to ask the vet to do some bloodwork to see what is missing in her diet!
My cats were attracted to yarn and thread. There is nothing quite as gross as finding a piece of yarn hanging out the back end of a cat. A friend's cat got a long thread inside himself and had to have very expensive surgery to remove it, as it was cutting his insides like a knife.
We need to be rsponsible and not leave interesting items out for them to taste, mangle and consume!Private Reply to Marielena Alvarez |

Mel Taylor | | Funny you mentioned cats. Mine had a thing for bumble bee sushi. I swatted a bumble bee and out of the blue here comes my cat who not only pounced on it but ate it live. My jaw is STILL in my back yard as I watched him eat it like popcorn. Being a crazy kid I took my mother's honey and dish cloth, dripped the honey down the swing set pole and when the bees came WHACK another tasty treat for my Rainbow. If my mother caught me there would have been another whack with tyhe dish towel in my direction. I wonder if my maniacal actions were the making of a sociopath. hmmmm.

Marielena Alvarez | | My cats love insects, they still get excited if a moth gets in the house or a housefly. They are getting old at 11 and 14 but they still get excited even if they can't catch them. Private Reply to Marielena Alvarez |

Zephyrain | | Some years ago I was visiting a friend of mine who had recently bought a mixed breed puppy. We were in the garden and I was watching the pup, to my surprise it passed a blue stool. It turned out that the puppy had eaten a blue balloon that her son had in the garden from the previous day!
It was the funniest thing and the pup was fine.

Matzo | | My yellow lab {who is a small part wolf} also eats absolutely everything she is allowed to have. Any toy, rawhide bone or anything. The only thing she hasn't eaten is her metal dish, but she carries it everywhere with her.
I used to give her big huge rawhide bones. She'll carry it around for a few days. Get you to play with her for a few days, then hide it in the cushions of the couch. Then she'll decided to eat it. When she does this, it is gone in about twenty minutes. I quit giving her anything to play with other than sticks and logs. And she has a cast iron stomach. She's never vomited any of the bizarre things she eats.

Marielena Alvarez | | Lady loves to chew on plastic, she isn't picky, anything from Tupperware to the cheap stuff.
Shoes are a favorite, she didn't score any points with my other half, when she chewed up the fringe on his loafers. I felt I should buy him a new pair since she ruined his. I have had to thow away a few pairs of pumps and have others repaired. At the repair shop they give you a funny look when you explain what happened to them.
Lady once chewed the cord in two, that my other half uses to connect to his camera to download the photos. He yelled at her and she cowered, knowing she had done something bad. All I have to do is ask them, did you do this? They start to shake, cower and lower their eyes. They would make awful poker players.
I think Lady's chew fetish comes from boredom, so I try to remember to leave a rawhide for her to chew on, when I am not home, to give her something she can chew on that is all her own.
She and her sister CiCi would probably love to have shoes of their own, when the weather is wet, they hate getting their feet wet when they go outside to do their business.Private Reply to Marielena Alvarez |
